Party Pics

Add caption
OK they're not from the actual party, they're from The Day After.  My camera is still down (hence, the aforementioned sucky blogging) so these murky shots of the flower displays are from the cellphone.
This arrangement was on the mantle, next to my grandmother's mirror.
The floral theme for the evening was 'white with touches of fall' and I had a blast making these arrangements. In a former life, I was a florist so it's fun to play with flowers, now that it's not my job, anymore!
This was my favorite arrangement. I love the cast-iron urn.
The party, celebrating my Miniaturas magazine debut, was an enormous success!  I haven't had a big party in ages and I think I need to remedy that.  It really was a blast!  I thought I preferred small-scale entertaining, but you get so much more bang for the buck, large-scale!  Plus --it's not even that much extra work, (unless you make it so).  For example: I made two batches of my award-winning  pâté, when one would have perfectly sufficed --but leftover pâté for breakfast and lunch --OK, dinner, too, isn't so bad, right?
Roses, dahlias, lisianthus, stock, snapdragons, larkspur, viburnum, bells of Ireland, zinnias, waxflower, magnolia, orange berries and a big ol' side of candy corn!
The only downside is that you, gentle Reader, was not there!  Now that would have been awesome!

XOXO,
John

This is wonderful! I hope you have the opportunity to do other great parties to give you the opportunity to make other awesome bouquets like that. The flowers are beautiful and I understand your pleasure to arrange and also to admire.

The mirror of your grandmother is a beauty, a real treasure.

  6. ¡Hola John!

  7. The flowers looks wonderful as do your real home. Mmmh....leftovers are always good especially if you have to cook every day! Ah, I am so sorry I live too far away to have come to the party, but I am sure we were all there in spirit!

  8. Your floral arrangements are awesome and I think your favourite is mine also. I was trying to work out if they were miniatures at first. Yum pate, and homemade, the best, I bet your guests had a ball too.

  9. Oh John,

I really love the flower as well as getting sneak peeks at your lovely home..is that candy corn in the candy dish? do wine spritzers go with Pate? and congrats again on being published it's a well deserved Honor!

  10. :-D
The next day is always tragic, "the music is over, the friends go away" (verses of a famous Italian song), and you stay with tons of leftover food and the whole house to clean. But in your heart you know that it was worth it, although you will need to sweep for the entire week :-)
The flowers are FABULOUS: If you reincarnate after death, maybe come back to do the florist :-)
But, frankly, because I have a passion for cooking, I would have gladly seen the pictures of paté!
Now, you must absolutely remedy the lack of a camera: you can not have a blog and do not have a good camera!
    Lovely hugs from Italy

    P.S.
I love the two Merriman gent dolls :-)

  18. Hello John,
No doubt any party you host will be a ball, glad to read you've had a great time, sure wish I could have been there, with or without pâté.

What beautiful flower arrangements you'made, white flowers are my favs, so stylish! It is always nice to see a glimpse of your house; your decorating skills are as great in maxi as they are in mini.

    Thanks for showing the pics!

  19. I see I have missed a few posts (I was away, taking my favourite class of the year, with Jens Torp!).
Too bad I could not come to your party, I would love to meet you and see your beautiful houses, both full size and miniature.
The flowers look beautiful, you could always go back to arranging for a career if needed, the talent definitely is still there! And paté, what can I say, I loooove homemade paté! I made one last week from organic chicken livers, pork and mushrooms...it was sooo good! But yours is award winning? Would love to taste it!
