Playing with the Light

It's Autumn, and so my attention has been focused on putting away the garden hoses, cleaning leaves from gutters... you know the drill. But some new, LED lights arrived in the mail on Saturday and I couldn't resist having a go at playing with them in my new room box.

I have to admit that I have been leery of jumping on the LED bandwagon.  I find their light rather garish. But for 'outdoor light' streaming through windows, they can't be beat!

Can't you see the elegant, silk curtains at the window?  I know that I can!

The light from this doorway (above) is actually from an incandescent bulb and in real life reads much more amber than here --oh well-- I'm still using a phone for these pics, so what do you expect?
I'm enjoying the views with a smart. little cocktail and am inspired to get back to work! Have a great week, everyone!

Your roombox is so gorgeous! The lighting actually adds life as well as light!
The puppets are adorable! I always wanted to learn to be a puppeteer. After all, puppets are a form of dolls right? ;-)

It is already such an elegant room. Even without the silk curtains, gorgeous floors and magnificent ceiling. I know all those things are coming. I look forward to seeing your choices. :-)

You are right. The LED light streaming through the doors and windows looks very natural.

I love the look of daylight streaming in the window and LEDs sound like the ideal solution. Your room is 'destined for greatness' and I look forward to seeing what you do next. That puppetry is amazing, poor composer looks like he is have nightmares, with screaming babies and attack pianos.

The light looks very natural! I'm using battery-powered LEDs for the bungalow, with promising results so far (you would not believe how realistic my flickering fireplace is - I should videotape it). Evan Designs offers miniature-friendly LEDs in both "cool" and "warm" white - warm looks more like daylight, so it's largely a matter of getting the right kind.

Hi John! The roombox looks really great so far, I love the way you're playing with the light! I am so glad you have started another project, so I still can learn more from you!
I really loved to see that video, I've never seen it before and it pushed on my inspiration button. Oh dear, I already got more than enough inspiration, but.......I miss the time!!! Thanks to you I now have a lot of new ideas, John, thanks ;)!
Have a great week!
Hugs, Ilona xoxo

Your empty room is already very elegant and very beautiful to look at. Beautifully with the light that casts its shadow into the room.
Enjoy your work.

Hi John! I have to say that the lights streaming through the windows and the doorway makes this room crazy beautiful! I love the fact that you are building sunlight into them and that is so Cool! My opinion is that LED's, like anything else new, had to be refined a bit more to enable them to them to fit into our needs; but I believe that they are still in the process of 'becoming'. And with their continued morphing will soon emerge even more Very usable lighting options for future miniaturists and/ or other small scale work. In other words;.... We ain't seen nothin Yet! :D

I have to agree, Elizabeth. LED lights have improved leaps and bounds and hopefully will continue to get better!

shop Ebay for 5,000K LED bulbs. That is the closest kelving rating in LEDs to the color of mid day sunlight.

Hint! the LED OTT lights are 5,000k and the Ott light fluorescent is 5,600K. So for a super quick lighting trick for a photo of sun light coming in the dollhouse window position your Ott light to strean in the "real" sunlight.

The lighting works really well John, what a great idea! and I love the way the light picks out the architectural details in the room too, a play of light and shadow, anyone would think you worked in display!! ;)

More please!!!

I too like the lighting, much to my own surprise. How many leds did you use, John?
To let us catch a glimpse of the stairs is a good trick! always curious what is in the next room, or cupboard or... ;)

Hi John! I think this room is Stunning! I LOVE the spaces glimpsed through the doors and the way the light shines in the windows and doors is So Dramatic!!! It accentuates the shadowing of the architecture... and creates such a mood of Waiting..... Who or What will come to inhabit this space....?
Keep up the Great work.... we all learn so much from you!!!

Hi John, ah what pleasure we receive from small successes like a path of light falling across a room. A room presently serene, waiting to come to life.
Looks great!
Wondering what comes next.

Hello my lovely, sorry I have been away so long, it's all coming together beautifully. It's a great idea to play around with different lighting, I know what you mean about the LED being a bit harsh but they definitely have their place when used wisely and of course there is none wiser thaN YOU!!
