Puppet Acid Trip; The Lost Footage: FOUND!

A long, long time ago, in my childhood far, far away, I used to live for the animated specials that came out in December for the holidays.  Truth: I still watch them, but this scene in recent years has been conspicuously absent --dare I say CUT-- from  an otherwise enchanting childhood memory!

I don't know why they would cut it... I have to admit it kinda looks like Jessica the Victorian puppet is having an acid trip in the town square, but did they really have to delete the entire scene?  I don't get it.  I mean, when I was a kid and watched this back in the day, it's not like I immediately screamed," OMG! Jessica is SO tripping!!!"

But I digress. Well thank god for YouTube and for bringing this long-lost classic back to life!

When I was a kid, I thought Jessica the Victorian puppet was so beautiful.  The pale-blue satin gown.  The Titian locks gracefully swept into an elegant chignon. The huge-ass bow on her, well, derriere.  Jessica the Victorian puppet was serving  uptight, Victorian  realness, until the poor thing finally realized her life was an enormous sham and now, her World is Beginning Today!  All symbolized by simply letting her tresses down...Girlfriend isn't tripping, she is merely transitioning from Old Jessica: uptight, Victorian schoolmarm, into New Jessica: swinging, groovy chick!

My World is Beginning, Today

All the little cares picked along the way
Suddenly, have disappeared with yesterday.
Tossed along the fields
And lost among the winds,
My world is beginning, today.

Oh, so many times have I walked this way
And never saw the little things that I see today.
Never held my head so
High above the clouds,
My world is beginning, today.

I know something's gonna happen, but it's out of my hand
Things are gonna start snappin' without any plan...

All the little cares picked along the way
Suddenly, have disappeared with yesterday.
Tossed along the fields
And lost among the winds,
My world is beginning, today.
My world is beginning, today.
My world is beginning, today!

P.S. I love it when Jessica the Victorian puppet gazes into the fountain at the end of her video and her 'reflection' is a photo cut-out!  Memories!

Makes me glad I was blind as a bat as a kid and could not clearly see the TV.

Honey! You watched that as a kid? That is one scary lady!
I was mad keen on Terror Hawks when I was "growing up", and Zelgar was The Queen of the Fright, and i was some how kinda reminded of here when watching Jessica. It probably says more about me than it does her! I'm going to hunt down the episode or film and watch it tonight (from behind the sofa!).
xx

Jessica is NOT scary, Simon, she is pretty! I tried looking up Terror Hawks but all I found was a band of the same name, But Zelgar, Queen of the Fright sounds FIERCE!

Have a great day my friend
You know you are the most fiecre and the most sickening... put the bass in your walk!

Ah Memory Lane! such a wonderful place to be, every step a rekindling of childhood dreams and hopes and fears!!

I haven't seen Jessica before, such poise, such charm, such graceful lines and a voice like tinkling bells. How could such a creature be scary?

Zelgar, on the other hand, used to put me off my Shreddies of a morning, she had gunge and slime in her mouth if I remember rightly. Quite disgusting!

now Trumpton, Camberwick Green, Magic Roundabout, the Wombles, Paddington, the Flumps, Bagpuss, they were indeed the ripest fruits of my own childhood. that and Thunderbirds! No green, worty skin and bad oral hygiene there!

er! where was I...?

Thanks for the birthday greetings, everyone' but it's actually not until Monday...So I still have a day and a half left to still be ONE YEAR YOUNGER than I will be when the clock strikes midnight on May 28. And for whom does the bell toll? It tolls FOR ME!

Now, please excuse me, I have to shoo off the vultures that have recently been circling overhead...

P.S. Andy and Simon I simply MUST see this Zelgar!!! She sounds awesome! And Happy Birthday (for real) to Simon, fellow Gemini)!

LOL! looks like we got the name wrong! her name was Zelda, and the show was called Terrahawks. I've just looked on Youtube, it's got plenty of footage; but with my (slightly) adult eyes it' hard to see what was so engaging about this show!!

Mind you I thought that about a show called 'Rentaghost' that I watched avidly as a child too, can it really be that TV wasn't as good as it seemed when I was younger?

John said...[Reply]

I hate when that happens, Andy! Thanks for the heads up about Zelda --can't wait to make her acquaintance...

How is your birthday so far?

Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! Oh...sorry, Gee, I'm fighting off the buzzards!... Ugh! Ugh! ugh! Apparently, they take me as carrion! Ugh! Ugh!

Gee said...[Reply]

Wow, that was some video. Amazing what we did as kids.

I am told that when I was a girl I was enamoured with Howdy Doody. I would wait all week for the show to come on and the minute they started singing "It's Howdy Doody Time," I would hide under the table with my hands over my eyes. How weird is that?????? And how weird is that puppet when I look at him today???

xo,
Sophia

Hi, Sophia!

Now, THAT was one freaky puppet! LOL!

So many trippy shows in our youths--HR Puffenstuff scarred me for life. I love Jessica's Shirley Bassey moves while she's singing! Too great!
